Iranian officials are forecasting that oilfields on the west side of the Karun River, which are mostly shared with Iraq and include the two giant Azadegan reservoirs, will reach production of 260,000 barrels per day of crude by March 2016 on the way to a target of 1 million bpd by 2021.
The latest official update on activities in the West Karun oilfields coincides with a fresh commitment by the Oil Ministry to increase the country’s output by 500,000 bpd immediately after international energy sanctions are relaxed, probably in early 2016.
