Kazakhstan's presidential elections brought no surprises, with acting President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev collecting almost 71% of ballots cast, giving him the right to remain at the post for five years.

Tokayev, 66, previously head of the upper chamber of the Kazakh parliament, was directly endorsed to run for the post by the country’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who announced his resignation in March, prompting a call for elections.
