The Australian operator said the Pomboo-1 well in Block L5 of the Lamu basin reached a total depth of 4887 metres, intercepting significant reservoir sands but no hydrocarbons.
Drilling and wireline logging indicated the primary target zone of the Pomboo structure found extensive Cretaceous sandstones as expected.
The drillship Chikyu is preparing to plug and abandon the probe, which lies 350 kilometres north-east of Mombasa in 2200 metres of water.
