Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally enacted a new petroleum code to govern upstream policy, exploration and production, setting broad parameters for institutional reforms set to frame operations and apportion revenue.
Under the new 2019 Petroleum Act, the central government will retain 75% of oil revenues while county governments shall receive 20% and local host communities 5% of the proceeds — half the amount proposed in the original 2016 Petroleum Bill.
