The twin-boom cranes, capable of lifting loads weighing 11,000 short tons, should be erected by mid-December, according to a yard source. The booms alone measure 500 feet in length, the source said.

Kiewit's crane will tower over a twin-boom predecessor, a specialised lifting device (SLD) at Technip-Coflexip's Gulf Marine fabrication yard, also in Ingleside.

The SLD has 4400 short tons of lifting capacity at a 210-foot radius and is located directly over Gulf Marine's bulkhead at the South Yard dock.
