Plans by US independent Kosmos Energy to come up with a fresh development solution for the challenging Walata oil discovery off Mauritania have been shelved.

Three industry sources said that a solution based on subsea wells feeding oil and gas to a small floating production vessel do not appear to have passed muster and studies have been stopped.

Project watchers told Upstream last October that a few contractors submitted responses to an inquiry from Kosmos covering subsea hardware for Walata, which lies in 1200 metres of water.
