Independent Kosmos Energy has chartered a Seadrill semi-submersible rig to drill an exploration well in the US Gulf of Mexico around the end of this year.
The Dallas-based player has signed the West Capricorn on a contract beginning in the fourth quarter, representing total contract backlog of $10 million, Seadrill said, without disclosing the dayrate or duration.
The new contract comes in addition to Kosmos’ prior hire of an EnscoRowan semisub to start a drilling campaign in the US Gulf this summer.
