The Odum-1 exploration well in its West Cape Three Points (WCTP) licence hit light oil in 955 metres of water.
The find, a stratigraphic trap in a Campanian-age fan system, gives Kosmos and its partners reasons to smile because the probe has opened up a second new play fairway in the Tano basin, the latest West African hot spot.
The first new play was established off Ghana last year by the Mahogany-1 well in WCTP and Hyedua-1 in the Tullow Oil-operated Deepwater Tano permit, which both intercepted Santonian-age sands in what is now known to be the same structure, called Jubilee.
