Exploration well KGV-D3-A1 was drilled to a total depth of 1937 metres and flowed 38.1 million cubic feet per day of gas through a 120/64-inch choke during a cased-hole drillstem test.
Reliance is now evaluating the potential extent and commerciality of the discovery, dubbed Dhirubhai 39, which lies in a water depth of 715 metres.
The semi-submersible drilling rig Kirk Rhein has now moved off location to spud the KGV-D3-B1 exploration well.
