Papua New Guinea’s Kumul Petroleum has become the official gold sponsor of one of the gas-rich nation’s professional rugby league clubs.

The state player is paying 3 million kina ($930,000) in total over three years to get its name on the jersey of the SP PNG Hunters, which competes in the Queensland Rugby League’s Intrust Super Cup.

The first 1 million kina was paid this week, with another two installments of 1 million kina due in January 2019 and January 2020 to keep the sponsorship going until the end of the decade.
