Shale explorers face having to rethink their plans in the UK after local authorities in Lancashire rejected plans by private oil company Cuadrilla Resources to drill and potentially fracture wells at two location in the county.
The lengthy period of time taken for the council to reach its decision has led industry bodies to call for a review of current planning rules.
