Libya to probe Gaddafi-era graft claims

Libya has set up a special committee to investigate cases of alleged corruption in the oil sector under the Gaddafi regime, raising the possibility of some contracts being reviewed or cancelled, writes Vahe Petrossian.

The creation of the committee comes as oil production reaches 840,000 barrels per day, more than half the pre-revolution level.

The committee looking into corruption will function independently of the oil sector, reporting directly to the National Transitional Council.

“This committee will study the old files of the oil sector. We are looking for corruption in the sector in the past,” Salem Gannan, a committee member, was quoted as saying.
