LIBYAN forces allied to the United Nations-sponsored government installed in Tripoli earlier this year have scored their first major military victories.

They have expanded central government control by effectively taking control of Sirte port and the city, raising the prospects for some kind of recovery in oil exports.

Libyan oil production and exports have plummeted this year. Reliable data have not been available, but production is believed to be well under 300,000 barrels per day.
