The 500 million yuan
($75 million) contract is meant to provide a fund for COOEC to start initial steel procurement as well as upgrading
facilities needed to build the platform.

CNOOC operates Liwan’s shallow-water segment, while production sharing contract partner Husky Energy operates the field’s deep-water development.

Factoring in the development of subsequent finds
near Liwan such as Liuhua
34-2, CNOOC has enlarged
the size of central processing platform to up to 70,000 tonnes, including a 30,000-tonne
jacket.
