The import facility and associated pipelines are expected to cost an estimated NZ$550 to NZ$600 million ($387 million to $423 million) and they could be built in about three years once LNG supplies have been contracted and the necessary approvals are in place.
The recently completed feasibility study found that the delivered cost to Auckland of LNG would be comparable to the price of post-Maui gas from indigenous sources, that is in the range of NZ $6.50
