The agreement with the gas monopoly follows a similar co-operation contract with Rosneft that Lukoil signed in 2011.
Under the pact with Gazprom, the two companies agreed to study joint opportunities in exploration, production and transport of hydrocarbons in the Nenets and Yamal-Nenets autonomous regions, as well as in East Siberia, the Far East and the Caspian Sea.
Lukoil — led by president Vagit Alekperov — also hopes that Gazprom will allow it to access the Russian sector of the Arctic, but the company cannot bid for offshore blocks on its own because of its private ownership.
