MacLaren will take possession of the 170,000-square metre Ilha da Conceicao shipyard in Niteroi in June next year across the Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro state, that it rented out to Vard Promar more than a decade ago.
Vard used the area to build supply boats, including two flexible pipelaying support vessels for Petrobras.
“Until recently, the leasing of the shipyard was a good deal for us, but now that the market is heated, we decided to have it back,” said MacLaren vice president Mauricio Almeida.
