Danish operator Maersk Oil is preparing to hand out imminently the major fabrication contracts for its $5 billion high-profile ultra high-pressure, high-temperature Culzean development in the UK North Sea, with Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) and Singapore-based SMOE tipped as frontrunners for the major prizes.
According to industry sources, contract awards could happen as early as next week.
Several sources spoken to by Upstream said they understood SMOE, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, was in pole position to land the topsides for Culzean’s three platforms and that Dutch-based HFG was expected to carry off the two remaining jackets.
