A new industry team-up aims to develop a new type of flexible pipe that can overcome the corrosion and stress issues that have plagued riser systems at some deep-water fields, including pre-salt projects off Brazil.
Services giant TechnipFMC’s acquisition of a 25% stake in the UK’s Magma Global, a pioneer in thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) for the subsea industry, will further research and development of a hybrid flexible pipe incorporating TCP that the companies say will be stronger and lighter than current flexible flowlines.
