The recommendation in favour of Hyundai by Malaysia’s state-owned Petronas followed the submission of commercial bids, during which the South Korean player emerged as the lead contender, sources said.
The award to Hyundai can only be finalised after several approval processes, including the final green light from a joint committee between co-project owners Petronas and Shell, sources said.
Petronas is believed to have sought bid validity until December from the participating contractors, partly to accommodate the final meeting with Shell, now scheduled for late October.
