Malaysia continues to lead regional charge

Exploration and production in Asean countries has been hit as players scale back activities against the backdrop of low oil prices. However, activity certainly has not ground to a halt as governments move to attract new investments and offer new acreage. Upstream takes a look at the current scene in four of the region’s key oil and gas nations.

MALAYSIA is recognised as the premier exploration and production destination in South-East Asia and, notwithstanding the current slowdown, continues to offer opportunities.

The chances are there, no matter the size of the E&P company.

For large operators with an appetite for exploration, there is deep water and ultra-deep water acreage off Sabah and Sarawak, where companies like Shell, ConocoPhillips and Murphy Oil have invested heavily, ably assisted by Petronas Carigali.
