Marathon Oil, which shares the drillship with ConocoPhillips, utilised the vessel’s capability earlier this year for its Solomon wildcat, a first of its kind application of the technology on a floating rig in the region.
Specifically, the technology utilises special kit to precisely manipulate downhole pressure with instruments instead of conventional techniques, which rely on the weight of drilling mud to keep the well under control.
