All of the country's oil and gas production is limited to the Taranaki province on the west coast of the North Island, although there are discoveries waiting to be developed on the east coast of the North Island, and in the Canterbury basin in the South Island.
Taranaki is part of a volcanic wonderland with rich farming pasture and mile upon mile of surf beach.
