An internal evaluation process is expected to result in detailed design work on a new floating platform for the Gulf of Mexico in 2009.
There have been numerous stoppages at Mars B, with the last one coming about two years ago when the project was shelved due to cost concerns in what the operator then termed an "overheated" market.
The latest examination of the project is being characterised as a complete re-evaluation.
