The field's operating company Shell Todd Oil Services (STOS) is understood to have enticed certain drilling companies to bid for a platform rig contract of at least six months' duration.
The rig, which could weigh upwards of 2000 tonnes, would be installed on board one of the two Maui platforms probably Maui B for long-reach drilling operations. Platform rigs form a market dominated by several large international players, including Nabors, Pride, Ensco and KCA Deutag.
