Australian company Melbana Energy is close to securing a drilling rig for its planned drilling campaign on Block 9 onshore Cuba.
Melbana said this week it has identified a preferred contractor for the rig and that discussions were continuing with the “established local entity” as it looks to start drilling in December.
However, it added the proposed rig was currently scheduled to be refurbished and upgraded for maintenance and operational purposes late in the third quarter.
