Production at its 500,000 tonne-per-year Waitara Valley plant ended on 30 September. The plant remains "a flexible asset for Methanex, with future operations dependent on securing economically priced natural gas," the company said.
All the employees at the plant will be kept on until at least March 2006 to carry out a major maintenance overhaul on the facility, said a Methanex spokeswoman.
