The violence has already spilled over into the US in places such as Arizona and Texas through the smuggling of drugs, guns and people, says Greg Purdy, an international risk advisor with security consultant CKR Global.
“A lot of my American contacts are pretty worried about where it’s going,” he says. “If (the cartels) choose to cross the border they certainly have the ability to do it.”
