The deep-water sector in Mexico is about to get even more interesting. Operators that won blocks in the country's Round 2.4 deep-water bid offering are wrapping up the paperwork to begin tackling exploration work, led by a massive programme by Shell, which has committed to drill 13 of the 23 wells promised in the round.

We have seen glimmerings so far of Mexico's deep-water potential — begun some years ago and already having yielded exciting discoveries by Pemex in the Perdido foldbelt.
