Encana and Chesapeake have been actively marketing large acreage packages to exit the play after disappointing results even as the Michigan Attorney General has brought charges alleging the companies teamed up to push down lease prices at state auctions.
Now, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said in a letter to the companies that it “will not approve assignments of oil and gas leases to or from Encana or Chesapeake” until further notice.
DNR
