The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will have military support in exploring for commercial oil and gas across the Benue Trough, Chad and Gongola basins, according to NNPC managing director Mele Kyari and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of defence staff, Gabriel Olonisakin.
The NNPC has been unable to mobilise effectively to recommence operations after Islamist militants attacked and kidnapped members of a survey team in 2017.
