Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Equatorial Guinea’s hard-headed Minister for Mines, Industry & Energy, has warned oil companies they will be forced to hand back acreage to the government if they do not carry out exploration drilling next year.

Speaking to Upstream, the minister also reprimanded US player Hess, operator of the Oveng-Okume and Ceiba fields, for not involving the government in initial negotiations to sell its stakes in these assets to India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
