The move comes on the heels of the agency giving the supermajor conditional approval to progress a two-well drilling plan on prospects in the region’s Beaufort Sea for 2010.
At the end of the month-long review that will assess the technical and environment feasibility of the plan, MMS could approve it, reject it or ask for modifications.
Along with the MMS review, Alaska regulators will study the programme to ensure it is in compliance with the state’s coastal management plan.
