The funds were originally blocked by the Swiss during a corruption probe.
During 1997 to 2000, $774 million in Angolan oil revenues was paid into an account belonging to Abalone Investment, a shell company set up by Falcone and Gaydamak.
According to non-governmental organisation Global Witness, about $600 million of those funds were transferred to accounts belonging to Falcone, Gaydamak and a series of obscure companies, with millions ending up in the private accounts of high-ranking Angolan officials.
