Thai Nippon Steel, a subsidiary of Japan’s Nippon Steel Engineering, is understood to have recently been awarded a contract to build replacement topsides for the ¿Montara wellhead platform.
The original platform with a 1000-tonne deck and 1700-tonne steel jacket was built by China’s ¿Chiwan Sembawang Engineering.
The topsides were engulfed by the fire on 2 November last year that also destroyed Seadrill’s jack-up drilling rig West Atlas.
