Petrobras financial director Ivan Monteiro has been appointed chief executive until March next year after the Brazilian state-controlled oil giant suffered one of its most turbulent weeks in recent years, culminating in the deparature of his predecessor Pedro Parente.
While analysts agreed that Parente’s unexpected exit was a significant blow to Petrobras and the administration of Brazilian President Michel Temer, most see Monteiro as a suitable choice to continue the turnaround process at the state-controlled player.
