The well, drilled by the semi-submersible drilling rig West Alpha, was aiming at two targets in the Garn and Ile formations.
West Alpha's drillbit found oil in both formations and sources said that the results so far are better than expected.
A subsea tie-back to either the Aasgard floating production, storage and offloading vessel or the Kristin production semisub are the most likely options.
