By the time it reaches the Grand Banks -- which lies at about the same latitude as Paris -- the stream of bergs has thinned considerably. Terra Nova's shallow water depth is also a help. Massive bergs are filtered out as they grind to a halt on the seabed before they reach the field.
During the March to June iceberg season, icebergs weighing more than 400,000 tonnes are rare and nothing larger than about 2 million tonnes is unlikely to get through to the field.
