Pemex asked for 15,000 barrels per day of processing capacity and 500,000 barrels of storage, criteria the vessel already meets. A complete overhaul of topsides is planned for the unit, expected to cost in the region of $400 million, with a handful of players already shortlisted.

The payload kit will be adapted to handle extra-heavy oil with high sulphur content, requiring major installation space and topside capacity, according to well-placed sources.
