A Russian hotel chain is now reported to be preparing to reopen the mothballed Hotel Arktika in the centre of the city, targeting thousands of workers expected to arrive for the Barents Sea gas project.
Azimut Hotels is understood to be looking to reopen the hotel by 2011.
The 17-floor building on the city's Lenin Prospect is a city landmark. It was originally built in 1983 with 1030 beds to serve sailors from Soviet and foreign ships stopping in the port.
