Austrian state-owned player OMV has also taken a stake in the blocks from previous operator, Brazilian independent Cowan Oil & Gas.
Murphy is taking a 40% stake in blocks 2613A and 2613B in the Luderitz basin, with OMV grabbing 25%. This leaves Cowan on 20% and Namibian state player Namcor on 15%.
The partners are planning an extensive 3D seismic acquisition programme as early as this quarter.
