ExxonMobil’s first appraisal well on the large Muruk gas discovery in Papua New Guinea is under way as the US supermajor looks to firm up a substantial new liquefied natural gas feedstock source, writes Russell Searancke.

The Muruk-2 appraisal well began drilling on 10 November in PNG’s north-west Highlands region.

The well is being drilled using the High Arctic Rig 104 , said Oil Search, which is drilling the well on behalf of various joint venture partners.
