Burmese farmers banned for five years from planting crops along the gas and oil export pipelines from Myanmar to China are up in arms over a new request from an affiliate of the pipeline operating company to acquire the land, writes Amanda Battersby.
The locals believed that they would be able to restart growing crops within the 50-foot exclusion zone on either side of the pipelines, construction of the first of which was completed in 2012.
