The units are to be installed on all four of BG Group's 170,000-cbm dual-fuel, diesel-electric (DFDE) Mark III-type LNG carrier newbuildings on order at South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries.
The units will allow boil-off from the vessels' LNG cargoes to be reliquefied, maximising the delivery volumes. All four vessels are due for delivery from late 2009 to 2010.
By opting for this extra kit, BG Group looks set to become the first owner outside those building vessels to Qatari LNG producers' specifications to take the decision to add on-board reliquefaction to its vessels.
