FORMER South Oil Company (SOC) chief executive Jabar Luaibi has won parliamentary endorsement as Iraq’s new oil minister in a Cabinet reshuffle following months of political wrangling and violent street protests.

Iraq’s parliament also approved the appointment of four other ministers, enabling embattled Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to put together a functioning administration.

Luaibi replaces Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who suspended his participation in Abadi’s cabinet meetings in March, pointing to “chaos” among government ministries.
