The G-4-6 well in nomination Block-IG hit three hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the interval between 3757 and 4185 metres, with the thickest sand comprising 55 metres of net oil pay.
The discovery, which was drilled from a water depth of 225 metres, is located 15 kilometres off Yanam in Andhra Pradesh.
ONGC plans to initiate a fast-track development programme for KG basin discoveries and is looking at initial production of 20,000 barrels per day of crude by early 2013.
