VRJ Petroleum is a consortium made up of Vietnamese national oil company PetroVietnam, Russia's Zarubezhneft and Japan's Idemitsu Oil & Gas.

The company recently spudded its first well in water depths of around 55 metres in block 9-3, 100 kilometres south-east of the country's oil capital Vung Tau.

Block 9-3 borders one of the hottest pieces of offshore exploration turf in Vietnam -- the Hoan Vu joint operating company's oil-rich block 9-2, where recoverable reserves at its headline field, Ca Ngu Vang (Golden Tuna), are at least 300 million barrels of oil.
