The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) wants to make it mandatory for LNG carriers with glued membrane containment systems to undergo a second post-gas trials secondary barrier tightness test (SBTT) sometimes referred to as a global test before delivery and at regular intervals throughout the vessel's life.
This is understood to have been agreed by the IACS statutory panel. It will now be reviewed by a survey panel with the aim of making it an IACS unified interpretation of the International Gas Code (IGC).
