A US judge has shot down a bid by New York City to force the five largest fossil fuel companies, including ExxonMobil and Shell, to pay damages to help the city adjust to the effects of climate change, writes Kathrine Schmidt.
The ruling, by US District Judge John Keenan, was the second denial of a similar case in as many months, with a California judge in June rejecting a request along the same lines presented by the cities of San Francisco and Oakland.
