Much attention inside and outside the province has focused on the dispute that arose last year between Premier Danny Williams and the four partners in the Hebron-Ben Nevis field, which resulted in the latter calling a halt to work on what would be Newfoundland's fourth standalone offshore development.

However, ignoring the rights and wrongs of that debate, some oilmen point out that it is a mark of the sector's lack of scale that one project alone should be the subject of such obsessive debate.
